| Press Release: Lee's Summit, Missouri Public Works Department Conducts Evaluation of Sewer System Friday, July 6 th, 2007 - The City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri has an ongoing effort to make improvements to the sanitary sewer system. As part of that program, the City has entered into a contract with two engineering firms, Archer Engineers and CH2M HILL, to evaluate portions of the sewer system. The work will consist of internal and external inspections of building services, smoke testing and manhole inspections, and sewer closed circuit televising. The building inspection and televising is scheduled to begin on July 16 th. The smoke testing is scheduled to begin on August 13 th. Generally speaking, the area where this work will be conducted is shown on Figures 1, 2 and 3. See Study Area. Smoke testing is generally conducted in the public right-of- way but field crews will be walking around each building to detect any defects on service lines. The smoke that is used is non-toxic, harmless, odorless and creates no fire hazard. Residents in the area of the smoke testing will receive a door hanger on their door that notifies them that the testing will occur and explains the process. Building inspectors will be going door-to-door conducting building inspections. Teams will generally be comprised of four people, a member of the engineering firms and three City staff members. Two inspectors will be inspecting outside drains, such as roof downspouts, yard and foundation drains. They will also be inspecting sump pumps, floor drains, and sewer cleanouts on the inside of buildings. The other two members will use a video camera to perform an assessment of the physical condition of the building’s sewer. Each inspector will be wearing an identification badge and a letter of introduction from the City. Inspection activities will be kept as short as possible in order to obtain all needed information. Inspections will generally occur during normal business hours, 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Monday through Friday, although some may occur from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and on Saturdays in order to accommodate resident’s working schedules. Additional information concerning these activities may be found at either www.lees-summit.mo.us or www.wadeprojects.com . |
