Solutions Without Boundaries

The City of Calgary, Alberta, Water Services has retained CH2M HILL to conduct an I/I Investigation and Smoke Testing program within portions of the City's wastewater collection system.  The goal of the study is to perform a conveyance condition assessment and to identify I/I (inflow and infiltration) leaks that can contribute to sanitary overflows and backups in the system.

This condition assessment includes smoke testing investigations of approximately 31,000 metres of sanitary pipeline.

Door hanger notification for smoke testing of sanitary sewer lines in the Study Area will be distributed at least 48 hours before testing in the area begins.  Smoke generation materials used are:

NON-TOXIC, HARMLESS, VIRTUALLY ODORLESS, AND CREATE NO FIRE HAZARD

We make every effort to coordinate our condition assessment activities with city officials, citizens, and business owners in the area to limit traffic disruption and to avoid interference with planned community-wide events.

Check our Daily Study Schedule for a map of the Study Area with daily listing of streets and neighborhoods to be investigated. Visit our Condition Assessment links to learn more about our other condition assessment services investigations.

Our goal is to find and reduce defects in your conveyance wastewater collection system in order to eliminate future sanitary sewer overflows and backups, and to control wet-weather flows.  Inflow & Infiltration reduction reduces costs of excessive relief sewer construction and protects the health and well being of the public and the environment.
